Betty McPeak
Nursing educator and healthcare leader committed to mentorship, patient care, and recovery-centered advocacy.
With more than five decades in nursing and over 30 years as an educator, Betty McPeak has dedicated her career to advancing healthcare through patient care, instruction, and leadership. As an advisor and board chair for Cal-HOSA and a director of vocational nursing programs, she has helped nurture the next generation of nurses with a commitment to excellence.
During her tenure as Director of the Vocational Nursing Program at two schools in Orange County, Betty spearheaded curriculum development, mentored aspiring nurses, and fostered environments centered on student success. As an adjunct professor at a local community college in Los Angeles County, she also contributed to the launch of a new vocational nursing program.
Betty first met Matthew Thomas years ago through a coworker and was immediately struck by the joy he brought to patients in a subacute setting. Despite the profound challenges these individuals faced, Matthew engaged them with laughter, movement, and hope. His own life experience shaped his empathy and drive to help others.
Through perseverance and the unwavering support of his mother, Matthew rebuilt his life and dedicated himself to uplifting people facing similar circumstances. He now speaks at schools to raise awareness about the devastating consequences of drinking and driving, inspiring students and future healthcare professionals alike.
When Matthew visited Betty’s nursing program, he encouraged students to do more than simply perform their duties — he urged them to engage with patients in meaningful ways that bring light into their lives.
Betty is eager to continue bringing her leadership, mentorship, and instructional experience to Positive Matters and to support its mission.
